How do you use the respirator?

  • When purchasing a respiratory protection mask, bear in mind the wearing comfort such as: type of straps and the robustness of the filter material.
  • Put on a respiratory protection mask before entering a radius of 1.5 meters around the (possibly) infectious person.
  • Put on a respiratory protection mask before entering the area where the (possibly) infectious is located.
  • Put on a respiratory protection mask according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring that: – the flexible part of the respiratory protection mask is properly pressed onto the nose bridge; – the middle part of the respiratory protection mask falls over the mouth and over the nose; – the bottom of the mask falls under the chin. Note: Beards and / or mustaches can obstruct a proper connection of the respiratory protection mask to the face, which means that a respiratory protection mask may offer less protection.
  • Change respiratory protection mask: – as soon as the maximum duration as prescribed by the manufacturer is exceeded or sooner as soon as: o the breathing becomes considerably heavier; o the respiratory protection mask is moist. Explanation: if the mask is moist, the filtering effect of the filter material of the respiratory protection mask decreases.
  • After use or when changing, always remove the respiratory protection mask outside the room where the (possibly) infectious person is located.
  • Remove the respiratory protection mask according to the manufacturer’s instructions and do not touch the front of the mask with your hands. Motivation: this method reduces the risk of exposure to micro-organisms in the air and contamination of the hands. Explanation: do not re-use a respiratory protection mask once removed because of the risk of infection.
  • Immediately apply disinfection for the hands.
  • Dispose of respiratory protection mask closed after use.

The RIVM (National Institute for Public Health and Environment) also advises regularly to disinfect hands and to regularly change the respiratory protection mask. The mouth masks do not completely exclude the risk of contracting diseases and infections. All mouth masks are for single use.
